IP Litigation
The founding shareholders of BKBC bring decades of combined experience as former shareholders in one of the nation’s premier trial firms for high-stakes intellectual property disputes. They have served as lead or key trial counsel in numerous patent infringement actions in federal district courts (including the Eastern, Western, Northern, and Southern Districts of Texas, as well as other venues), the International Trade Commission (ITC), the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and the Federal Circuit. Their work spans complex technologies such as cellular telecommunications (LTE, WCDMA, GSM, 5G), video coding and streaming (including H.264 and interactive program guides/DVR technology), wireless charging, RF/transceiver technology, medical devices, software, encryption/authentication, semiconductors, and computer graphics/systems. Representative successes include multiple nine-figure jury verdicts—including ParkerVision, Versata/SAP, Medtronic, Mojo Mobility/Samsung, i4i/Microsoft, and Netlist—as well as other significant verdicts such as the $15 million Summit 6 verdict against Samsung, i4i/Microsoft, NetList, Summit 6, ITC exclusion and cease-and-desist orders (notably repeated victories for Rovi/TiVo against Comcast, and matters involving Ericsson and Nokia), Federal Circuit affirmances and precedential wins, global FRAND/licensing disputes (Ericsson/Apple, Nokia/Apple, InterDigital matters), and defense verdicts. The team has represented both plaintiffs and defendants, including major technology companies, patent holders, and universities, securing well over $1 billion in verdicts and substantial settlements while handling all phases from investigation and claim construction through trial, appeal, and enforcement.
